The T8314C is a Trusted Fibre TX/RX Unit with conformal coating, manufactured by ICS Triplex / Rockwell Automation for the Trusted T8000 Safety Instrumented System (SIS). It is a ruggedised, coated variant of the standard T8314, providing enhanced protection against moisture, dust, chemical vapours, and condensation in harsh industrial environments.
  • Purpose: Convert copper Expander Bus (IMB) signals to single‑mode fibre for long‑distance TMR communication (up to 10 km)

  • Coating: Conformal coated PCB (acrylic resin) for harsh environments

  • Architecture: TMR Grey Channel (3 independent units per link)

  • Safety: IEC 61508 SIL 3 / SIL 4 certified

  • Max Distance: 10 km (single‑mode fibre, 9/125 µm)

  • Data Rate: 100 Mbps full‑duplex

2. Product Overview

The T8314C is a DIN‑rail mountable, ruggedised fibre transceiver with:
  • Conformal coated PCB assembly (improved humidity/chemical resistance)

  • Dual 24 V DC diode‑ORed redundant power inputs

  • SC fibre connectors (Tx/Rx) for single‑mode fibre

  • 100 Mbps copper‑to‑fibre signal conversion for Expander Bus

  • Extended temperature range vs standard T8314

  • Low power consumption (≤1.7 W)

It operates in pairs: one T8314C at the controller end (copper → fibre), one at the remote expander end (fibre → copper). For full TMR safety, three independent T8314C pairs are used (Grey Channel isolation).
