The NI PCI-6511 is a National Instruments (NI) industrial-grade 64-channel isolated digital input card (±30 V, 8 groups of isolation, source/drain type selectable), a PCI bus, half-length card, featuring:

64 channels of isolated DI (±30 VDC, 8 independent optocouplers, source/drain configurable, digital filtering, watchdog, change detection)

V. Installation and Usage Tips Installation

Power off and disconnect, insert into the standard PCI half-length slot; after startup, identify in MAX, install NI-DAQmx.

Cabling (100-pin SCSI)

8 independent isolated grounds: each group of grounds is isolated from the system ground to avoid ground loops.

24 V sensors: positive pole connected to DI, negative pole connected to the isolated ground of the same group (source type); or vice versa (sink type).

Contact signals: one end connected to DI, the other end connected to the isolated ground / 24 V of the same group.

Do not exceed ±30 V to prevent damage to optocouplers; each group has independent withstand voltage.

Software configuration (NI-DAQmx)

Input type: each group is independently set as source type / sink type

Filtering: 10–50 ms debounce, suitable for relays

Interrupt: change detection interrupt, reduces polling overhead

Long lines use shielded cables, with the shielding connected to the isolation ground of the same group and not connected to the system ground.

It is not suitable for direct connection to high voltage (> 30 V), and requires a relay / optocoupler for conversion.
