FCM2f
Model: FCM2f (Variants: FCM2F2, FCM2F4, FCM2F10) | Brand: Foxboro (Schneider Electric) | Type: I/A Series Fieldbus Communication Extender Module | Function: Serves as a fiber optic communication extender for fieldbus, extending the distance between baseplates, allowing remote installation of 200-series FBM modules near factory processes. It supports redundant pairing use and is immune to electrical noise, providing reliable signal communication extension.
1. Technical Specifications
The FCM2f series includes three variants with different maximum fiber optic distances: FCM2F2 (RH914YZ) up to 2 km, FCM2F4 (RH917JA) up to 4 km, and FCM2F10 (RH916TQ) up to 10 km. It features a rugged extruded aluminum housing, complying with ISA standard S71.04 and providing up to Class G3 (harsh environment) protection. The module supports hot-swap replacement without power interruption, with six front-panel LED indicators for real-time monitoring of network activity and module operation status. For fiber optic requirements: FCM2F2 and FCM2F4 use multi-mode graded-index glass fiber (62.5/125 µm core/cladding, 0.275 NA) with ST-type connectors; FCM2F10 uses standard single-mode fiber with ST-type connectors. The maximum allowable signal loss is 1 dB/km at 1300 nm and 3.6 dB/km at 850 nm for multi-mode fiber. It operates on a stable power supply, with a compact design suitable for standard baseplate installation.
Description
2. Key Features
The FCM2f is a fiber optic communication extender designed for remote FBM deployment, extending baseplate-to-baseplate distance beyond standard limits. It supports both redundant and non-redundant configurations: redundant use requires pairing FCM modules (four modules total for two baseplates), while non-redundant configuration only needs one FCM per baseplate. Its fiber optic wiring is immune to electrical noise such as EMI, RFI, and lightning, making it suitable for areas with rotating machinery, arc welders, high-voltage wires, or outdoor areas exposed to lightning hazards. The module has electrical isolation to prevent voltage differences and ground loops. It can be removed and replaced from the baseplate without powering down the system, minimizing maintenance downtime. Up to three fiber segments can connect a maximum of four baseplates, with the total fiber distance between baseplates not exceeding 20 km.
3. Installation & Wiring
The FCM2f is installed on standard baseplates, which include signal connectors for fieldbus, power, and I/O cables. A single baseplate can support up to eight FBMs, or a combination of FBMs and FCMs. When connecting two baseplates with fiber optic cables (redundant configuration), each baseplate requires a pair of FCMs; non-redundant configuration requires one FCM per baseplate. Baseplates within 60 meters can be connected via standard twisted-pair cables without FCMs and fiber optic cables. Fiber optic cables for the module are purchased separately by the customer, and must use ST-type connectors; non-compliant cables are not allowed. The module is installed in a rugged housing, suitable for harsh industrial environments, and can be mounted in control cabinets or on-site near process equipment.
4. Application
The FCM2f is widely used in Foxboro I/A Series DCS systems, suitable for industrial control scenarios such as power, chemical, oil and gas, and other industries that require remote FBM deployment. It is particularly applicable to areas with strong electromagnetic interference, lightning hazards, or long-distance communication needs between baseplates. It enables remote installation of 200-series FBM modules near factory processes, reducing the length of field wiring and improving system reliability. Its noise immunity and electrical isolation make it ideal for harsh industrial environments, ensuring stable and reliable data transmission between baseplates and FBM modules.
5. Ordering Information
Variants & Part Numbers: FCM2F2 (RH914YZ), FCM2F4 (RH917JA), FCM2F10 (RH916TQ). Each package includes one FCM2f module (corresponding variant). Fiber optic cables and baseplates are not included and need to be purchased separately. The module is compatible with Foxboro I/A Series DCS and 200-series FBM modules, ensuring seamless system integration.
6. Notes
The FCM2f is exclusively designed for Foxboro I/A Series DCS systems, compatible with 200-series FBM modules and standard baseplates. Redundant configuration requires pairing FCM modules to ensure fault tolerance and zero downtime. Fiber optic cables must meet the specified requirements (core/cladding, NA, connector type) to avoid signal loss or communication failure. The module supports hot-swap replacement, which can be completed without shutting down the system. For optimal performance, install the module in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations.
